Oak corbels are appreciated for their aesthetic and structural uses. They add detail to
buildings, being frequently used in kitchens, living rooms, and hallways to improve the
aesthetic appeal of shelves, countertops, and fireplaces. Often, they also enhance
architectural features like arches, overhangs, and shelves. Beyond their visual appeal,
corbels provide essential support for these structures, contributing to their stability and
longevity. Corbels should complement the visual weight of the beam or shelf above.
Generally, as a rule of thumb, the corbel’s height should typically be around 2/3 the depth of
the item it supports.

The two that are shown here were designed by a client, and if you are considering having
some made, have a chat with us about the possibilities! You might choose between classical
curves, rustic brackets, or minimalist lines—depending on the structure they’ll support or
embellish, or where in your home you are looking to position them.
