Modern Style Pergola

A pergola is a versatile garden structure that can transform outdoor spaces into charming retreats.  It typically consists of vertical posts supporting crossbeams and an open lattice, creating a shaded area perfect for relaxation or entertaining. Pergolas can be freestanding or attached to a building, and we are often asked to make them in a traditional style.

Modern Style Pergola from TradOak

We were pleased to receive a request to make a more modern oak structure. The client gave us their own design, which, as we took on the task, challenged and enhanced our technical skills even further.

This was because the pergola was designed without braces at the junctions of the posts and the ring-beams, meaning that the joints were more complicated to maintain structural integrity and stability.

The construction process was as satisfying as the finished result. It was rewarding to step out of the traditional and embrace a modern oak design, especially one tailored to the client's unique vision.

The final structure stands as both a functional piece and an artistic highlight within the beautiful garden in which it now stands. If you have an upcoming project and would like expert advice, get in touch with TradOak!

After completing a project for a customer, we were left with some rather lovely pieces of high-quality joinery oak. Rather than letting these beautiful offcuts go to waste, we decided to try our hand at crafting a prototype breadboard. We wanted to see if we could make use of the smaller sections of leftover timber […]
