Building Our Dream: Crafting a Portable Oak-Framed Office in Our Sussex Yard

At our 1.5-acre yard in Sussex, we are stacked up with vast amounts of oak, both air-dried and reclaimed, ready for use in construction. We create magnificent oak-framed buildings, fabricate beautifully crafted tables and doors, make stunning fireplace beams and mantels, and produce all manner of other oak objects, both aesthetic and functional. We spend all our time working hard to do the very best work possible for all our clients. One day more recently, we became our own client.

For years, we had used a functional portacabin as our yard office. As specialists in oak framing, we had always aspired to a beautiful oak-framed office to grace the yard. Finally, we decided the time had come to do what we needed to do. As is fairly normal after Christmas, things quietened down a little for a while, and our team took advantage of the temporary lull to begin work on the new oak-framed office. From the start, it was a labour of love!

It was decided to make the office fully portable by setting it on stone plinths and ensuring that the dimensions would allow it to be lifted by a crane and transported on a low-loader. So, if we ever need to move it, even if just to another part of the yard, it will be quite straightforward to do so. It also demonstrates that clients can opt for a lovely, traditional oak-framed garden room or home office that is also portable. Our team worked quite a lot of overtime and a number of weekends, as well as at quieter moments during normal working hours, and it wasn’t long before the new office began to evolve.

Our clients' projects always took priority, but at last, our lovely new office building was complete. What a wonderful addition to our premises and a real focal point for everyone entering the yard. It is also a true showcase for the skill of our craftsmen, having been fabricated to include a variety of examples of joints and other details that may be sources of inspiration for customers who are planning their own projects.

Stepping into the office, visitors are greeted with the warm, inviting ambiance that only oak can provide. The space not only serves as a functional office but also as a tangible example of our dedication to quality and craftsmanship. The completed project stands as a testament to our commitment to excellence and our passion for creating beautiful, enduring structures.

We invite you to visit our yard in Sussex, explore our vast selection of oak, and see firsthand the craftsmanship that goes into every piece we create. Whether you're looking to build an oak-framed building, craft a bespoke table, or add a stunning mantel to your home, our team is here to help bring your vision to life.
