New Reclaimed Oak Frame Porch

Frame Porch with Oak

This porch has been built using reclaimed old oak to be in keeping with the rest of the original house. The customer's requirements were that the porch needed to look original. Working closely with the client and architect we created a traditional design with modern functionality. All the oak beams used in the frame were hand-picked after viewing the main house to make sure it looked right.

All of the joints from the main doorway truss to the rafters have been hand cut. With new green oak, this is pretty straightforward, but with the uneven surface of reclaimed oak, all the edges of the joints have to be painstakingly scribed in so there are no gaps. When finally erected all joints have been drilled and pegged in the traditional oak framing method.
